This wine is tasty now with a decant, but I think will be excellent with 3-5 years of bottle ageing. It also lessens the tannins on the finish and you get more plum flavour. It is an elegant wine with a well-integrated ageing in oak. On the palate the wine is ample, unctuous and very expressive, with round tannins and a great fruity character. It has intense and fresh aromas of red fruits such as plums and cherries and spicy notes. Decanting makes this wine feel rounder and softer with lighter tannins, so more silky on the palate. Luigi Bosca Malbec is a bright purple-red wine. Medium length finishing with black fruit, oak and dry tannins. Almost silky but has a light tannic structure to support the fruit. A touch of chocolate after a few minutes of air. Ripe raspberries and plumbs, along with blackberries. It has a light body, acidity and fine tannins. This wine is dry but is very fruity so may taste off-dry. I did not notice any change in aromas with decanting. It has a light nose with inviting sweet fruit aromas of plums, figs, raspberries and blackberries, along with a touch of vanilla and floral. My Tasting Notesīodega Luigi Bosca Malbec 2017 (BC $20.99 on sale till May 2) – This wine is dull garnet with a hint of ruby, about 70% translucent from rim to the core. After the alcoholic fermentation was completed, the wine was transferred to French oak barrels where it rested for 12 months. Fermentation was conducted in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28☌ with selected yeasts. There was a pre-fermentation cold maceration process at a temperature of 8 ☌. The 2017 vintage is now out in the BC market and I have my tasting notes for you below. The Malbecs I tasted at that time with Alberto were excellent.Īt that tasting, I sampled the Bodega Luigi Bosca Winery Malbec 2016, which I rated as. Alberto noted that Argentina has 4 advantages of growing Malbec over the rest of the world: 1) altitude = slow maturation of grapes which lead to more concentrated flavours, 2) alluvial soil – poor in organic matter gives good quality grapes, 3) dry desert – they get less than 200mm of rain while vines need 600mm of rain each year, 4) they use the best water in the world from the Andes snowmelt. In September 2019 I was privileged to meet Alberto Arizu the great-grandson for the Bodega Luigi Bosca Winery about the history of the winery, the family, and the Malbec grape, while he was in Vancouver.
